Football players arrested for allegedly stealing bikes

Two WSU football players, Tyree Toomer and LeAndre Daniels, were arrested yesterday for allegedly stealing bikes.

From Cougfan:

…were arrested on theft and burglary charges and were immediately suspended. “Paul Wulff and the coaching staff are aware of the situation. The student-athletes have been suspended from team activities while more information is gathered, and appropriate action will be taken,” said WSU Sports Information Director Bill Stevens.

The pair were arrested on Tuesday according to police documents, and both were still in custody as of 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Toomer and Daniels are accused of second degree burglary, residential burglary and theft in the second and third degrees.

Campus police said the two had been seen taking bicycles and upon further investigation, they apprehended Daniels and Toomer and located the bicycles at their shared residence.

A hacksaw, reported stolen from a nearby home construction site, also was located at their residence, according to the report in the Moscow-Pullman Daily News.

Formal charges from the Whitman County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office are pending.

Now when it is partying and MIP stuff we usually don’t care but stealing bikes, god we hate people who do stuff like that. We hope they are given a 3 games suspension at least.

No permanent Apple in Seattle

Elson Floyd and Jim Stark put out a statement killing the dumb idea.

Regarding the ongoing discussions about the possibility of moving future Apple Cups to Qwest Field, Washington State University Director of Athletics Jim Sterk released the following statement Friday:

“President Floyd and I have decided not to pursue further conversations about moving the Apple Cup to Qwest Field,” said Sterk. “I want to reiterate that at no time did we have a finalized agreement. It became evident an understanding on ways to maintain the neutral-site atmosphere in regards to ticket allotment could not be reached; therefore, our student-athletes and Cougar fans would not be best served without this key component. I was not going to continue following a path that was not in the best interest of WSU Athletics, the university and our fans.”

“What made this possible agreement attractive were the additional number of tickets available to our fans, the financial gain seen by the athletic department, and the tremendous exposure created by playing a game of this magnitude at one of the premier sporting venues in the country. However, the final details could not be ironed out.

“We appreciate the relationship we have with First & Goal and will work with them to maintain WSU football’s presence at Qwest Field.”

QB getting raw deal from police and the press?

Reports about WSU QB Marshall Lobbestael being arrested for MIP and which happened after he was found passed out in the back of a truck may have been wrong. News sources such as the Moscow-Pullman Daily News and Cougfan are calling BS on the story.

The blog Hotdog & Friends has a rundown of what is being desputed:

It’s tough keeping up with all the news coming out of Pullman regarding WSU starting qb Marshall Lobbestael getting arrested for being a ”minor exhibiting the signs of having consumed alcohol”. Note that he did NOT get charged with MIP.

Also from Cougfan:

Cougfan.com has learned from reliable independent sources that: 1) Lobbestael was not “passed out”, 2) that the woman he was helping to walk was not unconscious, 3) that Lobbestael spoke with police on two occasions just prior and was not arrested.

Update: A different news report later quoted a Pullman police officer saying Lobbestael was “slumped over with a grocery bag of vomit between his feet”. CF.C has since learned it was instead a car trash bag, similar to what someone might put on a stick shift, that contained some McDonalds wrappers and other garbage, but no “vomit”.

QB nailed for MIP…at police station

Washinton St Oregon St Football
WSU QB Marshall Lobbestael was nailed for MIP over the weekend. Now this is not a shocking event, 19 college kid getting an MIP, but the circumstances… according to reports he was nailed for it at the Pullman Police station parking lot after passing out in the back of truck.

Sophomore Marshall Lobbestael, 19, was arrested after officers say they found him passed out in a pickup truck at the police station.

Pullman officers were in contact with Lobbestael twice on Saturday. The first run-in happened on College Hill when officers saw him carrying an unconscious woman. They took her into custody for MIP.

About an hour after that is when they found Lobbestael in the pickup truck at the station. They were able to wake him and arrest Lobbestael for MIP.

WSU’s Sports Information Director says Lobbestael has been suspended from the team while Head Coach Paul Wulff looks into the case.

Lesson here, get a van with no windows.

The Seattle Times and WSU Football…Bad Feelings?

{mosimage}
The Seattle Times has published a rather lengthy examination about the WSU Football Program, including many of the athletes and their “adventures” with law enforcement that you might have seen here on Cougster. It’s a pretty interesting read, even if it might come off as biased…but the public comments are probably the best part…
